The Newcastle Vikings are an American Football team based in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom. They play at Druid Park and were formed in 2014.
The Vikings entered the League in 2015 and after early success and a promotion they went on to lose in 2017 Division 1 Play-offs; shortly afterwards they announced that they had merged with BAFA Division 2 side Northumberland Lightning (formed in 2012). Since the merge, the Newcastle Vikings have secured secured multiple Division 1 Titles, and made the playoffs each year. Now in 2023 we finally achieved promotion to the Premier Division after cementing our place as the best team in the region.
The Vikings were also instrumental in the formation of the North East Academy of American Football, which makes the sport accessible to children, young adults and women; offering a pathway through the sport across multiple disciplines.
2023 was a great year for us. Gaining promotion for the first time in the clubs history to the Premier Division, forming a great partnership with a huge global brand in ‘King Of Shaves’. For the first time we had a title sponsor who provided us with clean new kits going into the season and supporting us throughout, it was a massive step forward for our sport and especially in our region.
This upcoming season we are looking to step up our commercial presence in the North East. With large audiences on our live stream on Youtube to our massive engagement on our social media platforms, we can provide businesses with great exposure whilst tapping into a massive audience in the UK with American Football. The UK is only second to the USA in their support for the NFL. Let’s bring that excitement to the UK grassroots game and really create something special.
The Newcastle Vikings have a strong and ongoing relationship with the Minnesota Vikings, built through our support of their NFL Flag programme in the North East of England. We have been instrumental in helping grow the game at grassroots level, working closely with schools and communities to introduce young people to American football in a fun, inclusive way. This partnership reflects shared values around development, education and opportunity, and we continue to enjoy a positive, collaborative relationship that strengthens both our club and the wider American football landscape in the region. was a massive step forward for our sport and especially in our region.
